Our Founder: Neil KoppelFrom launching one of the world’s first Moissanite ventures to co-creating exclusive collections with royalty, Neil Koppel has always been ahead of the curve. As the first customer of Charles & Colvard in 1991, Neil built his lab-grown Moissanite business to over $30 million in sales, setting the stage for what would become a global shift in the jewelry industry. In the early days of lab-created diamond technology, Neil saw what others didn’t — the power of science to change the future of fine jewelry. He helped introduce lab-grown diamonds to the U.S. market long before they became mainstream and also created fancy colored diamonds the world had never seen before, including proprietary cuts like the Renaissance™ Cut. After years of success, Neil retired in 2008 — but continued to support lab-grown diamond research behind the scenes. Humanitarian Mission in HaitiIn 2010, following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Neil began a new chapter of service. During his second week on the ground, he met actor and humanitarian Sean Penn. The two became close friends and worked side-by-side to bring relief to Haitian communities in desperate need. Together, Neil and Sean flew repeated missions between Haiti and the U.S., transporting doctors, supplies, and aid workers. Neil also led the effort to build an entire village — relocating 125 people from a crowded IDP camp into 25 permanent homes they constructed with local collaboration. A well was dug to provide clean, filtered water, and within six months, the community became self-sustaining. For the first time in generations, children from the village attended school, marking a profound shift in dignity and opportunity. Over the course of the year, Neil flew 58 humanitarian missions in his private aircraft, bringing back 21 critically ill children to the U.S. for urgent medical treatment.
